The main area of use of DustBloc is on Open Cut Mine Haul Roads. DustBloc is used at sites mining coal, and metals such as iron ore, bauxite, copper, lead and zinc.
Experience at these sites has proved the old adage that "every site is different". Use of DustBloc at a site starts with an establishment phase of DustBloc dilution and application rates. Monitoring of progress over a short time allows the determination of a consolidation and maintenance phase of DustBloc dilution and application rates for the site.
At open cut sites it is usual to start using a 40:1 dilution sprayed twice daily at a rate of ¼ litre dilution per square metre of surface. If a site’s water cart sprays at ½ litre per square metre of surface we will start at an 80:1 dilution. If water saving is a major goal of a dust suppression program for the mine then we work with the site to modify water cart sprays to reduce the number of cart loads used per day.
Once DustBloc has built up in the haul road surface, modifications to dilution rates are tested to reduce the amount of DustBloc used daily and determine the optimal dilution rate for the site. Changes are also made to accommodate different climatic conditions such as hot dry summer days or cold damp winter days. Most sites increase use over summer while reducing use in winter.
